Precautions When Using Essential OilsUnder normal circumstances, essential oils are safe for most people, when used sparingly and with common sense. However, there are certain precautions which one best be aware of.

The following are things that should be taken not of when using essential oils :

  • Pure essential oils must always be diluted with a carrier oil, lotion or water before applying to body. Normally a few drops at a time are sufficient.
  • Pure essential oils should not be taken internally withoug the advice of professional practitioner.
  • Pure essential oils is not always suitable for infants. When use on young children, it should not be more than half the recommended adults dosage.
  • People with hypertension should avoid using Cypress & Rosemary.
  • One should seek professional advise if one is pregnant or under medical treatment to avoid unnecessary reaction resulted from the use of essential oils.

The following oils must be avoided during pragnency:

  • Basil
  • Cedarwood
  • Clary Sage
  • Fennel
  • Juniper
  • Marjoram Sweet
  • Myrrh
  • Nutmeg
  • Rosemary

Avoids exposure to sunlight when applying the following oils :

  • Bergamot
  • Grapefruit
  • Lemon
  • Mandarin
  • Orange Sweet
